Mud on the road

The mud season has started. Mud or clay and rain are the ingredients for a treacherously slippery road surface that causes many accidents. During harvesting work or soil transport, it is inevitable that mud will get on the road. But what can we do to prevent accidents?

It is explained in this episode!

Mud on the road

What can you do...

... as a road user?

  • Be aware of mud on the road in the outlying area.
  • Do you encounter mud on the road? Let go of the gas, keep your steering wheel straight and drive slowly over the dirty stretch of road.

as a farmer or contractor?

  •  Try to prevent serious pollution by removing mud from the wheels of the agricultural vehicles before the vehicles hit the road;
  • Make sure that the polluted road surfaces are cleaned as soon as possible and that no large blocks of clay remain in the roadsides;
  • Contact the Scheldestromen Water Board or the Province of Zeeland if, despite the above measures, an unsafe traffic situation occurs. The Water Board or Province can then decide to place signs with a speed limit and danger of skidding.

Mud on the road

Agricultural vehicles can leave mud on the road during the rainy season. In order to ensure more safety on the road, both farmers and other road users can take action to increase safety.

Mud on the road

Mud that remains on the road during lifting can cause dangerous situations, especially in combination with wet weather. Farmers do their utmost to ensure that only a small amount of mud is left on the road. And work together with road authorities to clean the road as quickly as possible if mud does end up on it. But it is also important for road users to adapt their speed to the situation. Together we ensure more traffic safety on the roads.
